The Destination Mars program helps create tomorrow’s innovators

Elementary and middle school students in Florida recently took part in the Destination Mars Virtual Event, which challenged students to establish a base camp on Mars sustainable for humans to develop and grow, while addressing the problems of colonizing a new planet.

There were 16 teams of students representing 12 schools from Brevard County, who showed their completed projects to aerospace professionals, teachers, and community leaders. The day-long event was the last presentation in a project that took over a year to complete that culminated to a final congratulatory ceremony featuring keynote speaker, Astronaut Chris Ferguson.

As more nations seek to expand their presence in space for commercial, scientific, and military purposes – it is imperative that the United States continues to innovate. Our leadership in space motivates a new generation to consider careers in STEM fields, critical to our national competitiveness.
