The President of the United States recently paid a visit to Boeing’s St. Louis manufacturing facility where Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets are built for the U.S. Navy.
“I want to just say the F/A-18 [is] one of my favorite planes,” President Trump said. “To me it’s a work of art. You look at the workers. You look at the talent that went into it. We just looked at different versions of it… It’s a beautiful thing to watch.”
In the years following 9/11, the U.S. faced a fighter jet shortage. Ongoing combat operations in the Middle East stretched America’s military.
In order to ensure the U.S. Navy has what it needs to keep America safe, the President recently proposed funding for an additional 24 F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets. This was the Navy’s top priority for 2018. In 2017, the Watch U.S. Fly community contacted Congress about this issue — and our voices made a difference.
Watch U.S. Fly is thankful for all the community members who helped us tell our story to Congress, and we’re glad the president supports our long tradition of building the best military aircraft in the world.
