Technology continues to drive change in every facet of society: how we live, conduct daily business, and recently navigate global pandemics. In the last year alone, we have seen how technology can rapidly change outcomes before our eyes – highlighting how innovation is key to economic recovery and advancement. That is why I’m writing to urge your support for the reinstatement of the Research & Development Income Tax credit which will support economic growth, create high-paying jobs, and invest in Missouri’s future as a leader in technology and technology workforce.

Supporting the Research & Development Income Tax Credit will not only support jobs at Missouri businesses, but also has the benefit of helping support our state’s research universities. While many businesses already have research agreements with universities throughout the state, this credit will encourage even more investment by businesses of all sizes to work on projects with our state’s research institutions. In addition, this legislation was written to ensure it will be available to businesses of all sizes, being divided equally between including small businesses, women-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, and large businesses, by distributing the credits on a proportional basis.

Missouri must continue to support innovation in order to compete in a future of rapidly advancing global technology. Otherwise, there’s a great risk of being left behind. That is why I urge your support of the Research & Development Income Tax Credit in order to give a hand up to Missouri businesses, Missouri workers, and Missouri research institutions.
