An Act of Congress We Can Agree on

Who can say their birthday originated from an act of Congress? The U.S. Air Force!

This week 78 years ago, Congress passed the National Security Act of 1947. That law created the Department of the Air Force and established it as a co-equal branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Until that point, aerial defense was classified under the Army Air Forces.

Now we celebrate the unparalleled accomplishments of this extraordinary service branch and the role it continues to play in keeping our skies safe.
